Power did not create Fireball.
It revealed what was already there.

For millions of years the Core slept inside the comet’s buried nucleus, and every living ball remained ordinary. Then came The First Pulse. It did not change everyone, and it never produced the same gift twice. In Fireball it found a life, a place, and a private truth it could amplify.

The government calls each awakening an unpredictable exposure event. That explanation is useful, but incomplete. Two balls can stand beneath the same pulse and leave it entirely different: one unchanged, one transformed, neither able to explain why. Researchers compare distance, material, emotion, memory, and instinct. The Arena then tests those variables under pressure while the instruments below its floor listen for an answer from the Core. To the crowd, every fighter is a champion or a threat. To the researchers, every fighter is evidence. For Fireball, the distinction is personal. Entering the Arena means performing for a world that wants a simple story while confronting a power that was shaped by everything life had already made complicated.

Before the power

Before The First Pulse.

Before The First Pulse, Fireball served in an urban emergency brigade. During the pulse, a power-station fire spread through a crowded district. Fireball entered the blaze to guide trapped balls out and absorbed both the heat and the Core energy passing through the city's buried mineral lines.

That earlier life still matters. The Arena may advertise powers, rankings, and spectacular victories, but it cannot erase the ordinary experiences that taught Fireball what to protect, what to fear, and what a win is supposed to mean.

The awakening

When the Core answered.

Fireball emerged alive, permanently burning, and capable of leaving fire in every path. The rescue made Fireball a hero; the uncontrollable aftermath made entire neighborhoods afraid. The government offered containment, training, and Arena entry as a single package that was not really optional.

Core energy never handed out identical weapons. It amplified environment, instinct, memory, and need. The result was powerful enough to draw government attention—and personal enough that separating the ability from the ball became impossible.

Behind the ability

Who Fireball became.

Fireball is bold, warm, protective, competitive, and terrified of standing still long enough to hurt someone nearby. The public sees confidence; close friends see a ball who sleeps alone in fireproof rooms.

A power can change how the world sees a fighter without deciding who that fighter becomes. Hero, villain, celebrity, threat: the labels shift with every match. Character is what remains when the Arena lights go dark.

Inside the Arena

Every battle is also an experiment.

Fireball moves like an emergency route drawn at full speed. Heat follows every path, turning old lines into temporary danger and rewarding the courage to cross them again. The crowd sees spectacle. Fireball sees exits, hazards, and the responsibility to keep moving before the flames gather around someone else.

Fireball seeks a way to control the permanent burn without extinguishing the part that saved lives. The Core may hold that answer, or it may be the source of a fire the planet has not yet seen.

Rivals, allies, unfinished business

No fighter enters alone.

The Core Chamber

The question beneath the Arena.

Fireball's flame leans toward the Core Chamber like a compass. During one descent, it briefly burned cold and revealed symbols in the chamber wall before security removed Fireball.

Champions are promised access, not ownership. Many have descended. None has received a clear answer. The government records every reaction and publishes almost nothing, while the Core continues to pulse and new powered balls continue to appear.
